Thomas Dooley
*Thomas Dooley was born on this date in 1904. He was a Black Geneticist and Zoologist.
From Elberton, Georgia, Thomas Price Dooley earned a Bachelor of Arts from Morehouse College in 1927 and a Master of Science from the University of Iowa in 1931. In 1939, he also earned a Ph.D. in Zoology from the University of Iowa. His dissertation titles were Influence of Colchicine’s on the Germ Cells of Insects, Gryllus Assimilis, and Melanoplus Differentials, with Special Reference to the Mitochondria and Dictysomes.
In 1934 Dr. Dooley was appointed Professor at Prairie View A&M College. He served as Head of the Department of Natural Science from 1941 to 1949. From 1949 to 1968, Professor Dooley served as Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at Prairie View A&M College.
