The National Association of Black Scuba Divers is Founded

This date in 1991 celebrates the founding of The National Association of Black Scuba Divers (NABS). They are a group of Black scuba divers and other interested people.

Located in Washington, D.C., the NABS has been a vehicle for promoting scuba diving throughout the African American community. A national organization was needed to address the common interests of Black divers. Membership is open to anyone regardless of race, color, ethnic origin, religion, sex, national origin, age, or handicap. NABS divers travel all over the country diving with charter clubs. Summits and conferences are also held around the country. Clubs join together for trips, cruises, outings, and training.

NABS operates in four regions throughout America. The opportunity to interact with other clubs is one of the real values of the NABS Annual Dive Summits. In the past, NABS has had Summits in Fort Lauderdale, Key West, Nassau, Cozumel, Grand Cayman, and Curacao.
