Gen. Sherian Cardonia

*On this date in 1943, Sherian Grace Cadoria was born.  She is a retired Black Brigadier General military officer. 

Born in Marksville, Louisiana.  She is a graduate of Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and holds a Master of Arts degree in Social Work from the University of Oklahoma. Initially, in the Women's Army Corps, she transferred to the Military Police Corps in the 1970s.  In 1985 Cadoria became the first Black woman in the U.S. Army to achieve the rank of General and the second Black female in history to earn this honor.

She retired from active duty in 1990.  After her retirement, Cadoria began a new career as a professional speaker and consultant. In 1995, she was named Woman of the Year by the Business and Professional Women national organization.
