Marguerite Lula DeMond
*Marguerite DeMond was born on this date in 1907. She was a Black archivist and curator.
Born in Buxton, Iowa, her father was Abraham Lincoln DeMond, and her mother was Lula Irene Watkins. She lived in Macon, Bibb, Georgia, in 1910 and Charleston, Charleston, South Carolina, in 1920. Marguerite Lula DeMond attended Avery Normal Institute. She also attended Syracuse University in 1931.
After her father's death, she came to Washington, D.C., with her mother in 1932. There she was a researcher for Carter G. Woodson's Association for the Study of African American Life and History. She married John Preston Davis on November 10, 1932, in Manhattan, New York City, New York. They were the parents of three sons and two daughters.
She died on March 17, 1978, in San Diego, San Diego, California, at the age of 70 and was buried in Bonita, San Diego, California, United States.
