Evaristo Márquez
*Evaristo Márquez was born on this date in 1939. He was an Afro Colombian actor and herdsman.
He was born in San Basilio de Palenque, Colombia, the first free African village in the Americas by decree from the King of Spain in 1731. Before his involvement in films, he was a herdsman and illiterate. He is best known for his role as José Dolores in the film Burn, acting alongside Marlon Brando.
Márquez appeared in three more movies during the 1970s. With the decline of his film career, Márquez returned to work as a herdsman. In 2008 Márquez appeared in Chimbumbe, a short film at the Cartagena Film Festival. In August 2010, Márquez appeared in El Tambor Magico, a short film by San Basilio de Palenque children.
Evaristo Marquez died at a hospital in Cartagena, Colombia, on June 15, 2013.
